Confronting the Silent Crisis of Mental Health in Law Enforcement
Through an open discussion of personal and professional stressors the instructor will share their personal experiences and journey through the stress and trials of a long career to provide law enforcement officers with the knowledge and tools to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health issues, including vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and vicarious resilience. They will also discuss various strategies for self-care and healthy coping mechanisms to provide for a better way for officers to handle those issues when they occur.
Lesson Duration:
130 minutes (Note: Lesson can be broken down to 60 – 90-minute sessions if necessary for time constraints or extended to a full day session utilizing class discussions, case studies and group activities.)

A Wellness Workshop for First Responders
This presentation opens a dialogue with the audience, as Chris shares his personal and professional challenges from over 30 years as a firefighter and police officer. It explores the impact of job-related trauma and personal experiences on mental health, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, accessing resources, and finding healthy coping strategies. Emphasizing the value of support, the presentation guides attendees on beginning the healing journey and building resilience.

Ernie spent over 28 years in law enforcement helping develop new programs and policies for the San Antonio Police Department, and worked as a program manager for the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council that oversees emergency operations for 22 counties in Texas.
He was featured in the Emmy Award–winning documentary Ernie and Joe: Crisis Cops and has also wrote Mental Health and De-Escalation: A Guide for Law Enforcement Professionals.

Vin Scotto is a (ret.)NYPD Supervisor with 20 years of police experience in one of the busiest cities in the nation.
Vin uses his own unique brand of humor and "matter of fact" presentation that expands on his his career in law enforcement and the subsequent challenges that followed beyond the badge.
Through his presentation he shows a "vulnerability" that aids in opening lines of communication that is meant to break down that proverbial "blue wall of silence", leading to the opportunity for others to build their own personal wellness plan as well as acquire the skills for a more resilient and healthier lifestyle.
